This one is built in two layers: an outer rattan drum and, inside it, a second woven cylinder set slightly in from the wall of the first. You do not really see the inner core until the light is on, and then it becomes the whole point, because the light has to pass through two weaves instead of one before it reaches the room.
The result is a depth of shadow a single-layer shade cannot produce. The inner cylinder throws a defined column of light straight down, while the gap between the layers catches and diffuses the rest, so the outer weave glows rather than simply letting light through. From below you see concentric rings of pattern; from across the room, a lantern with real interior structure. It is the difference between a shade and a piece of joinery.
It is a large-scale fixture, so it wants height: a stairwell, a double-height living room, or a long dining table in a room with a tall ceiling. Three finishes are offered, black, natural rattan and brown. Bulb not included; use a warm white LED. Indoor use only, and dust both layers with a dry soft brush, reaching the inner cylinder through the open base.
