Iron Hollow Cage Pendant Light

An open iron cage, 15 cm across and 22 cm high, with the bulb visible inside it. There is no shade and nothing to diffuse the light: the frame draws a geometric outline around the source and casts its own shape outwards onto the ceiling and walls, which is the entire effect.

At this size it is designed to be used in numbers, and the two configurations reflect that. The single-light version works over a bedside, a desk or a hallway console, and looks best in a row of three or five along a counter or a long table. The three-light round version gives you that grouping from a single ceiling fixing, which matters if you only have one wiring point. The cord is 100 cm and adjustable, so the drop can be set to suit the room. Black is graphic and industrial and disappears into a dark ceiling; white is quieter and keeps the fitting light against pale plaster.

Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Because the bulb is exposed, a filament-style bulb makes a considerable difference to how the fitting looks, and the fitting should be mounted out of easy reach where the bulb could be touched. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
