The profile ripples. Rather than a straight or smoothly curved side, the shade rises and falls in a series of waves around its circumference, so the outline is never quite the same twice as you walk around it. It is a harder thing to weave than a plain dome, since the reeds have to be tensioned differently at every point, and the effect is worth the trouble.
Light behaves accordingly. Where the wave swells outward the weave stretches and lets more through; where it draws in, the strands tighten and hold it back. That gives an alternating band of brighter and softer light around the whole fixture, and a correspondingly rhythmic shadow on the ceiling, which is closer to the movement of water than a static pattern usually gets. It is the reason the shape exists rather than a side effect of it.
Three sizes are offered, 40, 50 and 60 cm, all at the same price, each hardwired or plug-in. Choose by room rather than by budget: the 40 cm for a bedside or hallway, the 60 cm over a table. Bulb not included; a warm white LED suits the natural fibre. Indoor use only, since rattan swells in damp air. Dust with a dry soft brush, following the waves.
