These are made from real wax rather than moulded plastic, which is the detail that makes them convincing. The surface has the slight unevenness and soft sheen of a genuine candle, and the LED inside flickers rather than glowing steadily, so from across a room the effect is close to a real flame. Castle, witch and bat decals wrap around the wax and are picked out by the light from inside.
The obvious use is a mantelpiece, a windowsill or a table centrepiece during Halloween week, but they are just as useful anywhere a real candle would be a bad idea: a bookshelf, a hallway console, a room with curtains nearby, a child's room, a rented flat. Because there is no flame, no smoke and no wax to drip, they can be left burning through an evening and switched off when you go to bed.
