Real paraffin wax rather than moulded plastic, which is the whole difference. A plastic candle looks like a plastic candle from a metre away, because the surface is uniform and the light passes through it evenly; wax is translucent, slightly irregular and glows from within, so at any normal distance this reads as the real thing rather than as a substitute.
The flicker matters as much as the material does. A steady LED inside a candle body is unmistakably electric; a flickering one that varies in both brightness and position is convincing enough that most people do not look twice at it. It is the combination of real wax and a moving flame effect that makes these work rather than either one on its own.
Seven heights are offered, all 7.5 cm wide, from 10 cm up to 25 cm, which is what lets you build a proper grouping at staggered heights rather than a row of identical candles. They suit a dining table, a mantelpiece, a Christmas arrangement or a bedroom, and because there is no flame they can be left in places a real candle should never be left, near fabric or on a shelf under something.
