Christmas Porch Light Covers

These slip over an existing porch or coach light and turn it into a lit Christmas character for the season, with no wiring, no decoration to hang and nothing to take down beyond the cover itself. Three designs are offered: a snowman, a Santa and a penguin, each moulded in EVA and sized at 31.5 by 22.5 by 12 cm to fit a standard porch lantern.

The appeal is how little effort they take for how much they change. A front door with a lit character either side reads as decorated from the street without a single string of lights, and for a house with an awkward porch or no railing to hang a garland on, this is often the only easy option. They also work on a garage light, a garden wall light or a covered patio fitting. Because the light comes from behind, the character glows evenly rather than being lit from the front, which is what makes them read properly after dark.

Important: fit these only over LED bulbs that run cool, and only over a fitting that is undamaged and in good condition. Do not fit them over incandescent or halogen bulbs, or over any fitting that becomes warm to the touch. Check the fit is secure and does not press against the bulb. Remove the covers if the light will be left on for extended periods, and inspect them regularly through the season.
