Stripes rather than a solid colour or a two-tone weave: bands of blue alternating with natural rattan, running around the shade rather than down it. The effect is more playful than most woven lighting manages, which is why this one turns up in nurseries and children's rooms as often as in coastal cottages. The nautical reference is obvious without being heavy-handed.
Because the stripes are woven in rather than painted on, they hold their edge and the natural bands still let light through at full strength. At night that produces an alternating pattern on the ceiling: brighter rings where the natural fibre sits, softer blue-tinted ones where the dyed strands run. A solid-colour shade cannot do that, and neither can a printed one. Up close the individual strands stay visible, which keeps it looking hand-made rather than manufactured.
Four sizes are offered, from 30 x 25 cm up to 60 x 55 cm, each hardwired or plug-in. The 30 cm works in a pair over a bedside or a nursery changing table; the 60 cm anchors a dining table or a kitchen island on its own. Bulb not included; a warm white LED keeps the blue soft. Indoor use only, since rattan swells in damp air, and dust it with a dry soft brush.
