At 30 cm this is a deliberately small pendant, and the small size is the reason to buy it. Hung low in a pair either side of a bed, it does the job of two table lamps while leaving the whole nightstand free for books, a glass of water and a phone. That is the hotel trick, and here it costs you nothing in floor space.
The shade is hand-woven from rattan and finished in white, which keeps it light against pale walls and stops the natural fibre from reading as heavy in a small room. Because the weave is open, the light it gives is soft-edged rather than a hard cone, so a pair hung close together still lights a bed comfortably for reading without glare from below. In a small flat this matters more than it does in a large one.
It also works over a narrow console, at the end of a hallway, or in a run of three above a breakfast bar. Bulb not included; a warm white LED keeps the white weave from looking clinical. Indoor use only. Dust with a dry soft brush and keep it out of bathrooms and other damp rooms, since rattan takes up moisture and loses its shape.
