White Fabric Flower Pendant Light, 68cm

White fabric formed into overlapping petals across a wide 68 cm frame, only 38 cm deep. At that width it is a substantial piece, and the flower form is what carries the scale: a plain drum this large would dominate a room, while a petalled one breaks the mass into parts and stays light.

Fabric is the reason it works. Light passes through the petals as well as around them, so each one glows softly from within and the shade has depth rather than presenting a single flat surface, and there is no glare from any angle. That makes it comfortable to sit under for a long evening, which is what a fitting over a dining table needs to be. At 68 cm it has the spread to hold a full dining table, a wide seating group or a hallway with real proportions, and the plain white keeps it quiet enough to work in a minimalist room despite the decorative shape.

Fabric is formed and finished by hand, so the fall of the petals varies between pieces and may settle after hanging. Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended, and a bulb that runs cool should be used and kept clear of the fabric. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight and diameter of the fitting.
