Feathers as a lampshade material do something no fabric or fibre manages: the outline is soft in every direction and slightly different every time you look at it, because the individual feathers move. Switched off it is a texture; switched on, the light comes through the barbs and the whole shade turns translucent at the edges while staying solid at the core.

A small feather shade reads as a novelty; at this scale the material has enough surface to be the point of the object, and the lamp becomes the thing the room is arranged around rather than an accessory on a table beside something else.
