Travertine Wabi-Sabi Pendant Light

Yellow travertine and wood in a minimal pendant with the LED built in. Travertine is a stone full of fine open pores and mineral banding, and lighting it from within is what brings those markings out: the shade glows unevenly and warmly, showing the structure of the material in a way that no printed or moulded finish can imitate.

Two sizes are offered. At 30 cm it suits a bedside, a breakfast bar or a smaller dining table, and a pair or a row of three over an island is a good use of it. At 40 cm it is the single fitting over a dining table, which is where the design belongs: hung low, the stone sits near eye level and the banding can actually be read. The wabi-sabi thinking runs through the whole piece, in that nothing has been smoothed away or standardised, and the natural irregularity of the stone is the point rather than a flaw.

Made from yellow travertine and wood. Direct wired, 110V-240V, CE and UL certified, with the LED included and not user-replaceable. Every piece of stone is different, so colour, banding and porosity vary between fittings and no two are identical. Stone is heavy: installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the full weight of the fitting.
