Wabi-sabi lighting is less about a shape than about tolerance for variation, and this handwoven rattan pendant is built on that idea. The reeds are laid by hand into a shallow dome, and no two shades close up in exactly the same way: the weave tightens in places, the rim wanders by a millimetre or two, and the tone shifts across the surface. Machine-made fixtures do not do this, which is the whole point.
Three sizes cover very different jobs. The 50 x 27 cm hangs over a bedside or a small breakfast table; the 60 x 30 cm is the standard dining-table size; and the 80 x 45 cm is a genuine statement piece for a living room with height to spare or a long table with six or more seats. Each is available in natural rattan or a darker stained finish, and in hardwired or plug-in versions.
The open weave sends most of the light straight down through the base and lets the rest through the reeds, so the ceiling picks up a wide, soft halo rather than a hard rim of shadow. Use a warm white LED to keep the fibre golden. Indoor use only, since rattan absorbs damp and loses its shape. Dust it with a dry soft brush, working with the weave rather than across it.
