Wabi-Sabi Retro Rattan Pendant Light
A low, wide rattan drum on a solid wood frame, this pendant leans on retro shapes rather than on ornament. The proportions are the giveaway: at 50 cm across and only 23 cm deep it sits closer to the ceiling than most woven shades, which gives a room the horizontal, mid-century line that a tall teardrop or a globe cannot. It reads as nostalgic without being a reproduction of anything in particular.
The shallow shape also changes the light. Because the shade is wide and short, light spreads outward more than it drops, so the room gets an even ambient fill rather than a tight pool on a table. That makes it a better living-room fixture than a task light, and it is why the same shade works in a restaurant dining room where you want the whole space lit rather than each table spotlit.
Three finishes are available: natural, dark natural and black, each in a hardwired or plug-in version. Natural suits pale walls and light timber; dark natural pairs with walnut and leather; black holds its own against white plaster. Bulb not included; a warm white LED keeps the wood and rattan warm. Indoor use only, and keep it out of damp rooms. Dust the weave with a dry soft brush and the wood with a dry cloth.
