Long Fringe Bamboo Pendant Light

Natural bamboo with a long fringed skirt hanging from the shade, left in an untreated finish. The fringe is what sets it apart from a woven dome: instead of a closed shell the fibres hang free, so the outline is soft, the shade moves very slightly in the air, and light escapes between the strands in fine vertical lines.

That gives a warmer and more diffuse result than a rigid natural shade, and it makes the fitting genuinely Mediterranean rather than generically rustic. It suits a room where the atmosphere matters more than the brightness: a dining table, a bedroom, a covered terrace or a relaxed living space. Hung low over a table the fringe sits near eye level, which is where the length of it can actually be seen and where it does most for the room. Bamboo is a natural material, so colour, texture and the fall of the fringe vary between pieces and no two shades are identical; the fringe may settle after hanging. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the fibre and do not fit a high-wattage bulb in a natural-fibre shade. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
