The weave changes colour partway down: a black tapered top giving way to a natural brown dome, with the transition worked into the weave rather than painted on. That single move does more for the fixture than any amount of shaping would, because it gives the silhouette a horizontal division and makes the eye read the top and the bottom as separate forms.
It also changes what happens when the light is on. The black upper section absorbs almost everything, so nothing escapes near the ceiling; the natural lower dome transmits normally and glows. The result is a fixture that appears to light only its bottom half, which is a more deliberate and more modern effect than an evenly lit shade produces.
Three sizes are offered, 40, 50 and 60 cm, all equal-sided, each in hardwired or plug-in versions. It is versatile enough for a dining room, a kitchen island or a living room, and the two tones let it work against both pale and dark walls without looking out of place in either. Bulb not included; a warm white LED suits the natural lower half. Indoor use only, since rattan absorbs moisture. Dust with a dry soft brush.
