This is the moon globe with the cable cut off. The same hemp-fibre sphere is built over an eco resin core and sealed to IP65, so it can live outdoors permanently: rain, dew and garden hoses are not a problem. A solar panel on the top charges through the day and the lamp lights itself at dusk, which means no trailing extension lead down the garden and no socket to find on a balcony.
Because it needs no wiring, you can put it where a mains lamp would never go. Set a 20 cm globe on a garden table, line three along a path, tuck a 40 cm into a planting bed so it glows out of the foliage, or use a 60 cm as a single sculptural piece at the end of a lawn. The globes are light enough to move for a party and heavy enough not to roll away in wind.
Seven sizes are available, from 20 cm to 60 cm. Give the lamp a full day of direct sun before the first evening, and site the panel clear of overhanging branches, awnings and nearby porch lights so it charges properly and the dusk sensor works. Wipe the panel occasionally so dust does not cut the charge. Bring the globe indoors in prolonged hard frost to protect the battery.
