Shell Form Wood Wall Sconce

A wooden shade formed into a shell, mounted to the wall with a gold fixing. The shell is a curved, slightly asymmetrical shape rather than a neat half-dome, which is what gives the piece its character: it reads as a sculpture holding a light rather than a lampshade on a bracket.

Three sizes are offered, from 20 by 30 cm up to 30 by 48 cm, and the range covers very different jobs. The smallest works beside a bed, in an alcove or along a hallway, and looks good in a pair. The middle size at 25 by 38 cm is the everyday choice above a sofa or beside a mirror. The largest at 30 by 48 cm has real presence and works as a feature on a blank wall in a living room or a stairwell. In every size the shell directs light up and down the wall rather than out into the room, which makes it a soft secondary light for the evening rather than a main one.

Wood is a natural material, so grain and tone vary between pieces. Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended, and a bulb that runs cool should be used and kept clear of the timber. Mount securely into a suitable wall fixing. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
