Rustic Hemp Rope Pendant Light

Hemp rope coiled and bound into a shade 36 cm across and 30.5 cm deep. Hemp is a coarse fibre and the appeal is exactly that: the rope holds its coil visibly, the surface is textured rather than smooth, and the piece reads as something made by hand rather than moulded in a factory.

The proportions are well judged. At 36 by 30.5 cm the shade is close to square in profile, which gives it a solid, grounded presence over a table without the width that would block a sightline across a room. Light escapes between the coils as well as through the open base, so the shade glows warmly around its whole surface rather than only pointing downwards. It suits a dining table, a kitchen island, a bedroom or a living room, and it works particularly well in a room with exposed timber, brick or linen, where the texture has something to sit against.

Available hardwired for a permanent installation or as a plug-in with a cable and in-line switch. Hemp is a natural fibre, so colour and texture vary along each rope and between pieces. Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended, and a bulb that runs cool should be used and kept clear of the rope.
