Large Rattan Woven Lamp Shade
This is a shade that gets specified for commercial work as often as for homes, and that is a useful signal. Restaurants, cafes, bistros and retail interiors all need fixtures that look considered, survive daily use and do not date within a refit cycle. A large plain rattan shade meets all three, which is why it keeps appearing in Japandi and Scandinavian schemes on both sides of that line.
In a domestic kitchen the same qualities apply. Over an island it gives you scale without pattern, and it brings a natural material into a room that is otherwise tile, stone and painted timber. Hung as a pair or a row over a longer counter it reads as a designed run rather than as separate lights, which is how it is normally used commercially.
Hand-woven from natural rattan at a large diameter, it refreshes the natural flair of a space without asking anything else in the room to change. Bulb not included; a warm white LED brings out the fibre and keeps the tone honest. Indoor use only, since rattan absorbs moisture and will lose its shape in a damp or steamy environment, so keep it clear of a hob directly below. Dust it with a dry soft brush rather than a damp cloth.
