Wide Rattan Wicker Wall Lamp

A woven rattan wall light in a wide, shallow proportion, 24 cm across and 17 cm high. Where a tall sconce washes a strip of wall, a wide one spreads light sideways across a broader area, which suits a bedside or a low wall better and keeps the fitting from feeling like a column.

The shallow depth is the other half of it. At 17 cm the lamp projects very little from the wall, so it can go in a narrow passage or beside a bed without being knocked by a shoulder or an elbow, which is a real consideration in a small bedroom. The weave lets light out through the sides as well as the front, so the wall picks up a soft pattern around the fitting and the light reaches further than the size of the shade suggests. Two versions are offered: hardwired for a permanent installation, or plug-in with a cable and switch for a rented flat or where there is no wall wiring in place.

Rattan is a natural material, so colour, grain and weave vary between pieces and no two are identical. Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended, and a bulb that runs cool should be used and kept clear of the weave. Mount securely into a suitable wall fixing, and have hardwired installation carried out by a qualified electrician.
