All three sizes are taller than they are wide: 25 x 35 cm, 30 x 40 cm and 40 x 50 cm. That vertical proportion is the defining feature and it decides where the fixture belongs. Tall shades drop light in a narrow column rather than spreading it, which suits a bedside, a stairwell, or a close-spaced run of three over a kitchen counter.
It also means they can be hung lower than a wide shade without getting in the way. Over an island, a tall narrow pendant can come down to just above head height and still leave the space feeling open, where a broad shade at the same height would feel oppressive. That is the practical argument for this shape, and it is why it keeps appearing in kitchens.
The weave is worked in natural rattan, in the colour shown, with no dye applied. Bulbs are not included, since a woven shade travels badly with one fitted; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Indoor use only, since rattan absorbs moisture and loses its shape in a damp room. Dust the length of the shade with a dry soft brush.
