Vintage Ceramic Pendant Light

A rounded ceramic shade with soft edges and no hard geometry anywhere on it. Ceramic is an unusual material for a pendant and worth choosing deliberately: it is heavier and denser than metal or glass, and it absorbs a little of the light rather than reflecting all of it, which gives the fitting a quieter, warmer output than its shape alone would suggest.

Three profiles are offered, A, B and C, differing in how deep and how flared the shade is. All three share the same soft rounded character, so they can be mixed in a row over a counter or a long table and still read as one family. The proportions suit an entryway, a living room, a kitchen or a family room, and they are equally at home in a commercial setting: a restaurant, a cafe or an office, where a fitting needs to look considered without demanding attention. Hung in a row of three or five along a counter they give a consistent line of warm light.

Ceramic is glazed and fired individually, so slight variation in tone, glaze and surface between pieces is normal and is part of the material. It is also fragile: handle with care during installation. Bulb is not included. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight, which is greater than an equivalent metal shade.
