Fabric Drum Pendant in Yellow or Brown

A plain fabric drum, 45 cm across and 25 cm deep, in two warm colours. The proportions are the most useful there are for a domestic pendant: wide enough to hold a dining table, shallow enough to stay clear of sightlines under a normal ceiling.

Colour is the whole decision here. Yellow is the confident one, and because the fabric transmits as well as reflects, it warms the light itself rather than only the shade, so the room takes on a golden tone in the evening that no white fitting can produce. Brown is quieter and more grounded, sitting with timber, leather and darker schemes, and it reads as a considered neutral rather than a colour. Both work over a dining table, in a living room or in a bedroom, and both are available hardwired for a permanent installation or as a plug-in with a cable and in-line switch, which makes them straightforward for renters.

Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Keep fabric shades clear of heat and use a bulb that runs cool. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight of the fitting.
