Small Metal Kitchen Island Pendant

A compact metal shade, 19 cm across and 19 cm high, with a wood detail at the top. Small pendants are harder to find than large ones and considerably more useful in a real kitchen, because a row of small fittings lights a long counter far better than one big shade in the middle of it.

Three finishes are offered. Black is graphic and industrial and holds up against dark cabinetry and concrete. White reflects the most light back down and disappears against a pale ceiling. Grey sits between the two and suits a scheme with stainless steel or stone. All three are available hardwired for a permanent installation or as a plug-in with a cable and in-line switch. The proportions are made for repetition: three over a standard island, five over a long one, or two over a breakfast bar. Because the shade is solid metal, all the light goes downwards onto the worktop rather than spilling into the room, which is what you want in a working kitchen.

Wood is a natural material, so the grain of the top detail varies between pieces. Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and each ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight it carries.
