White or Bronze DC Motor Ceiling Fan

A DC motor is the specification that separates this from most fans at the price. DC motors run quieter than the AC motors fans traditionally use, they draw noticeably less power, and they give finer control over speed, which is what makes a low setting genuinely low rather than merely slower than the high one.

Reversible airflow is the other feature worth understanding, because it makes the fan useful in winter as well as summer. Run one way, the blades push air down and create a cooling draught. Run the other, they pull air up and push the warm air that has collected at ceiling level back down the walls, which spreads a room's heating more evenly.

Two finishes are offered: matte white with natural wood blades, which is the lighter and more Scandinavian of the two, and aged bronze, which is warmer and more traditional. Two spans, 42 and 52 inches, cover a bedroom and a living room. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for a fan's weight and movement. Indoor use only; wipe the blades dry and check the fixings periodically.
