Wavy Ruffled Linen Drum Pendant

A hand-finished linen drum with a wavy ruffled edge running around it, so the silhouette moves rather than sitting as a hard cylinder. Linen is the right material for a detail like this: it has enough body to hold the ruffle in shape and enough texture that the folds catch light at slightly different intensities.

Five sizes are offered, which is an unusually complete range. At 40 by 20 cm it works over a bedside, a hallway or a small dining table. At 50 by 23 cm it suits a dining table or a mid-sized living room. At 60 by 26 cm it becomes the main fitting in a living room. At 70 by 30 cm and 80 by 32 cm it is a substantial centrepiece for a large table, a wide seating group or an open-plan space, and both need the ceiling height to sit properly. The ruffle softens what would otherwise be a plain drum, so the piece has real presence at the larger sizes without needing colour or pattern.

Linen is a natural fabric, so tone and weave vary between pieces, and the ruffle is finished by hand so its fall varies slightly. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the fabric and do not fit a high-wattage bulb. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight and diameter in the larger sizes.
