Solid Ash Starburst Chandelier, 12 Light

Hand-polished solid ash formed into twelve radiating arms, taking the mid-century atomic starburst and rebuilding it in natural timber. The substitution changes the whole character of the shape: the same geometry that reads as cold and industrial in polished metal becomes warm and craft-made in wood.

Hand-polishing is what makes it work at this scale. Twelve arms is a lot of visible surface, and a rough or machine-finished timber would look crude; polished ash has a soft sheen that catches light along every arm, so the piece reads as considered from any distance. Two finishes are offered: natural wood, which is pale and Scandinavian and sits with white plaster and light timber, and walnut, which is darker and richer and holds its own against strong colours and older wood. Because the arms radiate at genuinely different angles, the piece has depth from every side rather than flattening into a circle when seen from below.

Wood is a natural material, so grain and tone vary between arms and between pieces, and no two chandeliers are identical. Bulbs are not included; use bulbs that run cool, keep them clear of the timber and do not fit high-wattage bulbs. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the full weight and span of the chandelier.
