Biomorphic means the form is drawn from living things rather than from geometry, and here it shows in a silhouette with no straight lines and no repeated element anywhere on it. A hollowed archway runs through the body, so the lamp has a hole in it, and that void is doing as much work in the composition as the solid parts are.
The archway is why the piece changes as you move around it. Light passes through the opening rather than around the object, so the shadow it throws is a defined shape rather than a blur, and the negative space reads differently from every angle. A solid sculptural lamp looks much the same from most positions; this one does not, which is the reason to give it a spot you walk past.
The surface is a stone texture rather than a glaze, matte and slightly rough to the touch, which is the wabi-sabi half of it: the finish is meant to look weathered rather than perfected. It suits a console, a shelf or a side table in a room with few objects in it. Bulb not included. Indoor use. Dust the texture with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which snags.
