Woven Bamboo Shade Ceiling Fan Light

Bamboo rather than rattan, and it changes the shade noticeably. Bamboo splits into flatter, more uniform strips, so the weave comes out cleaner and more regular than a rattan one, and the finished shade reads as elegant rather than rustic. That suits a ceiling fan, which is already a visible piece of engineering and does not need roughness added to it.

Light diffuses through the natural texture rather than through a glass panel, so it reaches the room warm and softly patterned. The shade is handcrafted, so the weave varies slightly from one fan to the next, and it is the only decorative element on the fixture: the blades and the body stay plain and let it do the work.

Three spans are offered, 106, 122 and 147 cm, which is 42, 48 and 58 inches, all with a remote. Bamboo is fast-growing and renewable, which is a fair part of the appeal. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight and movement of a fan. Indoor use only, since bamboo absorbs moisture; dust the shade dry and check the fixings periodically.
