Hand-pleated cream fabric draped over an architectural frame in a shallow bowl, so the shade opens upwards like a parasol rather than hanging down like a drum. Turning the form the other way up changes what the fitting does with light: instead of pushing it down onto a table, it throws a good part of it up onto the ceiling and lets the rest filter through the pleats.
The result is a much softer room. There is no bright pool and no hard shadow anywhere, just an even wash, which is why this style suits a living room or a bedroom better than a working kitchen. Four sizes are offered. At 40 by 17 cm it works in a bedroom, a hallway or a small dining room; 50 by 21 cm over a dining table; 60 by 25 cm in a living room or over a large table; and 80 by 28 cm as a centrepiece in an open-plan space with the ceiling height to carry it. The cream fabric warms the light on its way through and sits with linen, pale timber and plaster.
Fabric is pleated by hand, so the fall of the pleats varies between pieces and may settle after hanging. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the fabric and do not fit a high-wattage bulb. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and in the larger sizes the ceiling fixing must be rated for the full weight and span.
