Natural hemp fibres wound into a hollow sphere, layer over layer, so the surface is a complex web of overlapping threads rather than a smooth shell. Lit from inside, the fibres glow along their length and the globe takes on the soft mottled quality of a moon, which is exactly what the design is after.
Seven diameters are offered, from 20 cm up to 60 cm, and the size range is what makes this so usable. The 20, 25 and 30 cm globes are small enough to hang in clusters of three, five or seven at staggered heights, which is how the design looks best and how most people use it over a stairwell or an island. At 35 and 40 cm it works singly over a bedside, a hallway or a breakfast table. At 50 and 60 cm it becomes a centrepiece over a dining table or in a living room. All sizes come hardwired with a 1.8 m drop, adjustable at installation.
Hemp is a natural fibre, so colour and the exact pattern of the winding vary between pieces and no two globes are identical. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the fibre and do not fit a high-wattage bulb in a natural-fibre shade. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
