Metal Pendant Light with Acrylic Shade

A metal outer shade with an acrylic diffuser set inside it, which is a combination that solves the main problem with metal pendants. A bare metal shade throws a hard-edged pool of light with a visible bulb at its centre; the acrylic diffuser softens the beam and hides the source completely, so you get the crisp silhouette of metal with light that is comfortable to sit under.

Two sizes and three colours are offered. At 45 cm it works over a dining table, a kitchen island or in a bedroom. At 60 cm it has the spread to be the main fitting in a living room or over a large table. Orange is the confident choice and gives a plain room one strong point of colour; black is graphic and industrial and holds its own against dark cabinetry; white recedes against a pale ceiling and reflects the most light back down. In all three the interior finish affects the tone of the light, so the same bulb reads differently under each.

Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Use a bulb that runs cool, as acrylic should not be exposed to sustained heat. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight of the fitting.
