The base does not stand straight. It curves and doubles back on itself in a continuous serpentine, which is a difficult thing to make in ceramic because the form has to balance without a visible counterweight. The reeded ribbing running along its length catches light down one side of every curve, which is what makes the shape readable from across a room.
Memphis as a reference means colour and geometry used deliberately against good taste, and the palette here follows it: black and white for the restrained version, then light pink, orange pink and light orange, which are the ones the design is really for. A serpentine base in a neutral is a sculpture; the same base in orange pink is a statement.
A glass globe sits on top, and its regularity is the counterweight to the base: perfect sphere against irregular curve. All five colours are the same price. It suits a console, a shelf or a desk in a room that can take a strong object. Bulb not included; a warm white LED suits the globe. Indoor use. Wipe the ceramic and the glass with a soft dry cloth.
