This is the same hand-woven teardrop in a deep matte black, and the change of colour changes what the fixture does. Natural rattan blends into a pale room; black separates from it. Against white plaster or a light ceiling the weave becomes a graphic outline in daylight, closer to a piece of sculpture than to a lampshade, and the walnut-tone solid wood top keeps it from tipping into anything too severe.
At night the effect reverses. Because the shade absorbs rather than reflects, almost no light bounces off the inside, so what escapes comes through the weave itself as sharp, defined shadows rather than a soft wash. That gives a darker, moodier room than a natural rattan shade would, which suits a bar, a dining corner or a room you use mainly in the evening. Pair it with a warm bulb to keep the mood from going cold.
Three sizes are offered, 40, 50 and 60 cm, each hardwired or plug-in. The 60 cm works as a single feature over a table; the 40 cm suits a row of two or three above a kitchen island. Bulb not included. Indoor use only. Dust with a dry soft brush and avoid damp rooms, and note that black finishes show dust sooner than natural ones, so it will want brushing more often.
