A hugger fan mounts flush against the ceiling rather than hanging from a downrod, and the reason to choose one is headroom. In a room with a standard or low ceiling, a downrod fan drops the blades down into the space and dominates it; a flush-mounted one keeps the ceiling line clean and the blades safely out of the way of anyone standing beneath it. That is the whole argument.
The blades are solid wood rather than pressed board or plastic, which is unusual at this profile because a slim fan has less depth to hide a heavy blade fixing. Three blades keep the silhouette clean when it is still. Three finishes are offered, black, white and grey, so it can either disappear into the ceiling or read against it.
Three spans cover most rooms: 42 inches for a bedroom or a study, 48 for a standard living room, 52 for a large or open-plan space. An integrated LED means the fan also serves as the room's main light. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician and the ceiling fixing must be rated for a fan's weight and movement. Indoor use only.
