Open-Weave Straw Dome Pendant Light

Natural straw fibres woven by hand into a dome with a deliberately open weave, so you can see through the shade rather than only at it. That openness is the design decision that matters: light escapes in every direction rather than only downwards, and the fitting throws a wide net of shadow across the ceiling and the surrounding walls.

Four sizes are offered, from 30 by 35 cm up to 60 by 55 cm, and all of them are taller than they are wide, which gives the dome a fuller, more generous shape than the shallow versions of this style. The 30 and 40 cm sizes suit a bedside, a hallway or a breakfast bar and work well in a group at staggered heights. The 50 and 60 cm sizes have the presence to hold a dining table or a kitchen island on their own. Straw is a fast-growing, sustainable fibre, and the material is what carries the piece: nothing has been added to it, and the appeal is the weave, the colour and the hand-work.

Straw is a natural material, so colour, texture and weave vary between pieces and fibres may settle lightly at first. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the weave and do not fit a high-wattage bulb in a natural-fibre shade. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
