Hand-Woven Bamboo Saucer Flush Mount

Natural bamboo fibres are woven by hand into a tight, fluid geometric mesh and set into a shallow saucer that sits flush against the ceiling. It is the Japandi answer to the problem of a low ceiling: all the warmth and texture of a woven pendant, with none of the drop that makes a pendant impossible in a room with limited head height.

The tight weave is what separates this from a coarse basket-style shade. Light passes through it as a fine, even glow rather than in hard shafts, so the fitting reads as a soft lit disc rather than a bright source, and the shadow it casts on the ceiling is delicate rather than graphic. Three sizes are offered: 40 by 12 cm for a bedroom, a hallway or a study, 50 by 14 cm for a mid-sized room, and 60 by 16 cm where it needs to be the main light in a living or dining room. Against white plaster, pale timber and linen it does more to warm a minimalist room than almost anything else at this price.

Bamboo is a natural material, so colour, grain and weave vary between pieces. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool and keep it clear of the weave. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
