Two pieces of glass doing two different jobs. The outer shade is a wide brim, coloured and shaped like a shallow hat; beneath it sits a frosted globe that holds the bulb. The brim reflects and colours the light; the globe diffuses it. Neither on its own would give the effect, and together they produce a soft ambient glow with a tint to it rather than a plain white pool.
Fifteen combinations come from five brim colours, red, black, beige, green and pink, and three globe tones: green, orange and white. White is the neutral choice and keeps the light closest to the bulb's own colour; green and orange tint it noticeably. Mixing a bold brim with a white globe is usually the safer pairing.
The fixture is built from metal and glass, so it is more robust than it looks and easy to clean. It suits a living room, dining room or bedroom, and works well as a single feature or a pair. Bulb not included; a warm white LED behind a frosted globe gives the softest result. Indoor use. Wipe both pieces of glass with a soft dry cloth.
