Three jute rope drums arranged one above the other in descending size, turning the ordinary single-drum pendant into a tiered, multi-dimensional piece. The stepping is the design: light escapes between each tier as well as through the bottom, so the fitting shows three glowing bands rather than one, and it has real depth when seen from the side.
Two sizes are offered and they are very different propositions. At 60 by 37 cm it is a substantial fitting for a dining table or a living room in a normally proportioned house. At 80 by 50 cm it is a grand statement piece for a large open-plan space, a double-height room or an entrance hall, and it needs both the floor area and the ceiling height to be worth doing. Natural jute gives the whole thing its warmth: the rope has visible texture and slight colour variation along its length, so a piece this large never reads as flat or manufactured.
Jute is a natural fibre, so colour and texture vary between pieces and the rope may settle after hanging. Bulbs are not included; use bulbs that run cool, keep them clear of the rope and do not fit high-wattage bulbs in a natural-fibre shade. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the full weight, which is considerable in the 80 cm version.
