Wooden Slat Sculptural Pendant Light

Wooden slats layered with precision into a tall, rhythmic column, each one set at a small angle to the last so the form twists gently as it descends. It is a piece of real joinery rather than a shade wrapped around a frame, and the interest is entirely in the repetition and the spacing.

Both sizes are considerably taller than they are wide, at 20 by 48 cm and 29 by 58 cm, which is what makes them useful in practice. A tall narrow fitting fills vertical space without spreading across a room, so it hangs low over a dining table without blocking sightlines, works in a stairwell where a wide shade would be wrong, and fits a hallway or a bedside where floor and visual space are tight. Light escapes between every slat, so the column glows in horizontal bands and casts a striped pattern outwards onto the nearest wall and ceiling. In a Japandi or mid-century room it looks entirely at home; in a plain modern one it supplies the warmth the space is missing.

Wood is a natural material, so grain and tone vary between slats and between pieces. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the timber and do not fit a high-wattage bulb. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
