Silk Bubble Saucer Pendant Light

A wide, shallow saucer with a translucent membrane stretched seamlessly over a wire frame, in the bubble-lamp technique of the mid-century. This is built to that tradition rather than being a licensed reissue of any named designer piece. Because the material is sprayed and stretched rather than cut and sewn, the surface has no seams anywhere and the light leaving it is completely even.

That evenness is the entire point. The membrane eliminates glare, so the fitting can be hung low over a dining table and looked at directly from any seat without discomfort, which very few pendants allow. Four sizes are offered, at 30, 40, 50 and 60 cm across, all shallow in proportion. The 30 and 40 cm suit a bedside, a hallway or a smaller table; 50 cm is the everyday choice over a dining table; 60 cm has the spread for a large table or a living room. Each is available hardwired for a permanent installation or as a plug-in with a cable and switch.

Each shade is formed by hand, so slight variation in surface and profile is normal. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, as the membrane should not be exposed to sustained heat, and do not exceed the maximum wattage marked on the fitting. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
