Amber Glass Mushroom Floor Lamp
Polished chrome and hand-blown amber glass in a tall standing lamp with a mushroom-domed shade. The two materials pull in opposite directions and that is the point: the chrome is sharp, cold and precisely machined, while the glass is soft, warm and slightly irregular, and the contrast is what gives the piece its space-age character.
This is built to the familiar mushroom silhouette of that era rather than being a licensed reissue of any named designer piece. The amber glass does the practical work: it hides the bulb completely and warms the light on its way out, so the lamp gives a soft golden glow rather than a bright white one, and it can be looked at directly without discomfort. Standing next to a sofa, an armchair or a sideboard it works as an evening light and as an object in its own right, and it suits a room with mid-century furniture, warm timber or a plain modern scheme equally.
Glass is hand-blown, so slight variation in shape, thickness and tone is normal. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool. Stand the lamp on a level, firm surface where it cannot be knocked over, and route the cable so it is not a trip hazard. Keep it out of reach of small children and pets, as a tall lamp with a glass shade can be pulled over.
