Silk Cocoon Cloud Pendant Light

A translucent membrane stretched over a wire frame, in the cocoon technique that produced the architectural bubble lamps of the 1950s. The material is sprayed and stretched rather than cut and sewn, so the surface has no seams anywhere and the light passing through it is completely even. These are built to that cocoon tradition rather than being licensed reissues of any named designer piece.

Nine profiles are offered across the range, from wide shallow saucers to tall elongated drops, in sizes from 20 cm up to 80 cm across and up to 95 cm high. That breadth is the point: the same material and the same light quality can be had as a small bedside piece, a wide fitting over a dining table, or a long sculptural drop in a stairwell. Model A is the classic wide dome; models D and E run tall and narrow for vertical spaces; the rest sit between. Because the membrane glows uniformly with no hot spot, a group of different profiles hung together reads as one family rather than a collection.

Each shade is formed by hand, so slight variation in surface and profile is normal. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, as the membrane should not be exposed to sustained heat, and do not exceed the maximum wattage marked on the fitting. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
