A coloured glass shade with an open bottom, in the plain rounded macaron form that has become the default shape for mid-century revival lighting. There is no detailing at all, so the colour and the glass are the whole design, and the open bottom means the light falls straight down onto the surface below rather than being trapped in the shade.
What makes this one worth attention is the two-part colour choice. The outer shade and the inner surface are selected separately, from white, pink, green, red and black, which means the fitting can be quiet on the outside and a strong colour inside, or the reverse. A white outer with a red or green interior is the subtle version: from a distance the pendant reads white, and the colour only shows when you stand under it and see the light warmed by the inner surface. Black outside with white inside is the graphic version. Over a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, a row of three in matched or contrasting combinations is where the design does its best work.
Glass is formed and coloured individually, so slight variation in tone is normal. Bulb is not included. Because the shade is open at the bottom, a frosted bulb is more comfortable to sit beneath than a clear one. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
