Brass Dome Pendant Light

A metal dome in a classic brass finish, with nothing added to it. This is the plainest shape in mid-century lighting and the most durable, because a solid dome does exactly one thing extremely well: it puts all of its light straight down onto whatever is beneath it.

Three diameters are offered, at 20, 25 and 30 cm, and all three are small by pendant standards. That is deliberate. Small domes are made to be used in numbers, and this design is at its best hung in pairs or in a row of three over an island, a breakfast bar or a long dining table, where the repetition creates the visual balance that a single fitting cannot. Used singly, the 30 cm works over a bedside, a hallway console or a desk. The brass warms the light as it reflects off the inside of the shade, so what lands on the worktop is noticeably softer than it would be from a white or chrome dome.

Brass finishes are applied by hand and may vary slightly between pieces, and brass mellows with age. Bulb is not included; because the shade is open at the bottom, a frosted bulb is more comfortable to sit beneath than a clear one. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight of the fitting.
