The weave on this one is finer and more intricate than the plain basket weaves around it, with the strands worked into a tighter repeating pattern that catches the eye before the shape does. That is what gives it its vintage character: older woven fixtures were made this way because there was time to do it, and the density is difficult to fake.
A tighter weave also means less light escapes sideways, so the fixture behaves more like a proper shade than an open cage. Most of the output is directed down through the base into a warm, contained pool, with only a fine tracery of light finding its way through the pattern onto the ceiling. In a kitchen that combination is the practical one: the worktop is lit and the room stays soft.
Three sizes run 40 x 35 cm, 50 x 45 cm and 60 x 55 cm, all noticeably deep for their width, which suits a higher ceiling or a spot where you want the shade to hang well down. Bulb not included; a warm white LED brings out the rustic tone of the rattan. Indoor use only, and keep it clear of steam from a hob below. Dust with a dry soft brush.
