This is rattan doing the thing rattan does best: a classic wicker weave, no dye, no decorative top, no unusual silhouette. The appeal is that it fits almost anywhere. A shade with a strong shape commits a room to a style; a plain wicker one adapts to whatever is already there, which is why it turns up in coastal, farmhouse, boho and plainly modern kitchens alike.
It is designed with a kitchen island in mind, and it is worth taking that literally. The weave is worked by hand, so no two are identical and the surface has a slight unevenness a moulded shade never gets.
