Most woven rattan comes in one colour: the colour rattan already is. This one is dyed blue, which changes what it can do in a room. A natural shade blends quietly into a kitchen of pale wood and white tile; a blue one gives you a single point of colour to build around, without adding a painted surface or another textile. The weave itself is unchanged, so the texture still reads as handmade.
At 55 cm wide and 31 cm deep it is proportioned for a kitchen island, where you want the shade wide enough to cover the working surface but shallow enough to see across. Hung in a row of two or three over a longer island it holds a clean horizontal line. It also works over a dining table or as a single feature in a mid-century living room, where the shape suits the furniture.
Light drops through the open base onto the work surface and filters out through the weave as a softer, coloured wash on the ceiling. Available hardwired or plug-in. Bulb not included; a warm white LED keeps the blue from going cold and grey. Indoor use only, and keep it clear of steam from a hob directly below, since damp weakens rattan over time. Dust with a dry soft brush.
