Japanese Bamboo Lantern Pendant Light

Woven bamboo in a wide, low lantern form, 42 cm across and 25 cm high, so it reads as a broad shallow shade rather than a deep dome. The weave is what makes it: light passes through the gaps and casts a fine pattern of lines and shadows across the ceiling and the walls, which is something no solid shade can do. Two weave patterns are offered, A and B, so you can choose a tighter or a more open look.

The proportions suit a room where you do not want the fitting hanging in your sightline: over a dining table, along a kitchen counter, at the end of a hallway or above a bedside. Bamboo brings warmth and texture that metal and glass cannot, and it sits naturally in rustic, oriental, coastal and country schemes as well as in a modern room that needs one natural material to soften it. Each unit is available hardwired or as a plug-in version with a cable and switch, which makes it usable in a rented flat.

Bamboo is a natural material, so colour, grain and weave vary between pieces. Bulb is not included; use energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs and do not exceed 60 W. Keep bulbs that run hot away from the weave, and have hardwired installation carried out by a qualified electrician.
