Wood at the base and glass above: the heavy, opaque material low down and the transparent one high up, which is the arrangement that makes a table lamp look stable rather than top-heavy. Japanese design uses that logic consistently, and it is the reason this lamp reads as calm even at the largest of the three sizes, where a glass-heavy lamp would look precarious.
Two timbers are offered and they are genuinely different rather than two shades of the same stain. Ash is pale, close-grained and almost neutral, so the lamp stays quiet in a pale room. Walnut is darker, browner and more strongly figured, and it costs a little more, which is a fair reflection of the material rather than a marketing step.
Three sizes run from 18 x 30 cm, small enough for a bedside, through 25 x 41 cm for a console, to 30 x 52 cm, which is a floor-adjacent lamp for a corner. Bulbs are not included, since glass travels badly with one fitted; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Indoor use. Wipe the glass with a soft cloth and keep the wood dry.
